KAEA Student Rep Opening

May 30, 2013
Alyssa Passmore
Former Student Representative
Sales Representative for
Kansas Art Education Association

Dear University Supervisor and Aspiring Students:

Alyssa at YAM as Vincent YAM Gogh
There is an exciting opportunity on the KAEA Board this year as the Student Representative position is open and ready for a new eager student. This role consists of recruiting and organizing student volunteers, communicating with supervisors across the state about the student scholarships, as well as organizing a small art activity at the Youth Art Month Celebration at Topeka. There are also 7 board meetings a year held in Salina, KS.

The board has been an inspiring and monumental experience in my life and I want to encourage everyone to become a part of it and share the benefits of being a part of KAEA. The board consists of a variety of talented art teachers from across the state opening up doors for interviewing and networking. Conference involvement looks impressive to future employers and shows leadership. The experience also helps develop leadership skills, organization skills, and advocacy points. The personal relationships between the board members is another perk, it is a great resource to have 20 mentors that are veteran teachers in the field.

Student representatives have come from all over the state and with the board meetings centrally located it allows for many students in art education to be eligible. If your students are interested in applying for this position, please contact Linda Nelson-Bova or Linda Morgan at nelsonbova@yahoo.com or lmorgan2@goddardusd.com

I appreciate your time and consideration in reviewing this letter and hope to see many applications come in.

Sincerely,
Alyssa Passmore

KAEA Award Nominations

School's almost out! But before you grab a tropical drink and head for the pool, please take a moment to nominate a colleague for a KAEA award. The process is simple, but it is much easier if you get the supporting letters before everyone scatters for vacation.
The application forms area available at http://www.kaea.com/awards.html

All paperwork is due by July 1, 2013, and all forms must be emailed to mitchellangie@email.com as pdf files.

There are many outstanding art teachers in our state, so let's give them the recognition they deserve. Is there an organization in your school or community that supports the arts? You can nominate them for the art enhancer award. The awards will be presented at the KAEA fall conference in Overland Park on  October 24-26, 2013.
