2017 Youth Art Month

The Youth Art Month Celebration will be here before we know it!!!

Dear Fellow Kansas Art Educators: It's time to celebrate our profession and our  student's accomplishments. Please join the Kansas Art Education Association for our  Annual Youth Art Month Celebration  Saturday, February 25, 1:00-2:30 pm  at the  Topeka State Capital, 2nd floor Please park and enter through the North Side. ALL KANSAS ART EDUCATORS: Every Art Teacher in the state of Kansas is eligible to enter one work of art from one student in every school that you teach in. Please plan on participating by honoring ONE of your students from each building in which you teach by exhibiting their artwork at the Youth Art Month Celebration at the capital building. Labels for the artwork and an invitation can be printed from our website: http://kaea.com/yam.html  There are area YAM representatives listed on the website that are willing to take your artwork to Topeka for you.   Simply contact them for delivery.   *OR you can deliver your art work in person on February 24th, from 4-8 pm to the Clubhouse Inn in Topeka.   *OR if that does not work, we will accept artwork by 8:00 am at the state capitol on Saturday, February 25th. KAEA MEMBERS:   As part of your KAEA members benefit we would like to invite member teachers to submit your students work to the  "YAM Virtual Gallery"  for the KAEA Youth Art Month Celebration!  Each teacher is allowed to enter three pieces of art work from each building they teach in.  You may submit up to three pictures for one piece of 3D work.  Along with the photos, please clearly label each piece with: Student Name, Teacher Name, School Name, Title of Work, Media. You must also submit an "artist release form" for each student.  This can be found on the YAM page on the website (left side).  Please note, artwork submitted to the virtual gallery should be different from the one piece of physical artwork you bring to the YAM celebration in Topeka.  Please e-mail artwork & a digital copy of the form to: Kate Miller   kmiller@usd415.org     with YAM Virtual Gallery in the subject line.    Deadline, February 17 "Youth Art Month Art Competition" KAEA Members' students are also eligible to win first, second and third place prizes in the elementary, middle and secondary levels provided by Sargent Art, Nasco and Molly Hawkins. One student will be awarded a Best of Show award courtesy of Sargent Art. This year the Best of Show recipient will receive a $1500.00 cash prize!! "NAEA Kansas Youth Art Month Exhibit" Teachers are invited to submit student work for exhibit at the National Convention in New York City.  Please send one or two digital images of your student's artwork that you would like have included in our state's exhibit.  Please include: your name, student's name, school name, student's grade level, title of work, and media. Send images no later than February 17th to: Lana Kaylor at kaylorl@usd385.org Please edit (crop, color adjust, etc.) your images as you would like them to print. 2016 Kansas YAM Flag Winner

The results are in for the 2016 Youth Art Month Flag Design Contest. 208 entries were received and judging took place December 1st. The panel of judges was extremely impressed with the quality of the flag designs. The results of the 2016 Youth Art Month Flag Design Contest are listed below.

Congratulations to all the winning students and their art teachers! All winners will be honored at the Youth Art Month Day at the State Capitol in Topeka on Saturday, March 5th. All entries will be included in a digital display at the YAM event. Details for this event will be posted on the KAEA website closer to March.

YAM CD Weaving Installation

Three schools (Hutchinson, Oxford, and Wellsville) from across Kansas met today at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka to complete a CD weaving installation sculpture. The students worked from 9:00a until 11:30a tying the individual weavings together into a large tapestry. There were nearly 600 weavings between all of the participating schools (those unattended were Pittsburg State University, Troy, and Osawatomie).

The weavings will be in the capitol until Saturday, March 7^th for the celebration of Youth Art Month. Parents and students are encouraged to attend!

You're invited to enter one student artist's work from every building you teach at into the Kansas Art Education Associations Youth Art Month Gallery. 

Please send one jpeg of your entry to Katie Miller at kmiller@usd415.org, in the subject line please put YAM virtual gallery. If you are entering a three-dimensional work you may include three jpegs from various angles to be included on one slide.

In your email include the name of the student, title of work, medium,  school name, grade and teachers name. 

Three random winners from the entries will be awarded prizes  at the Youth Art Month Celebration on March 1, 2014 at the state capital. The virtual gallery will be on display at the capital on March 1, 2014 and entries for the virtual gallery will become part of the KAEA YAM gallery at the national convention in San Diego on March 28-31 and the on the KAEA web site.

2013 Youth Art Month Celebration

It's that time of the year again---time to be thinking about participating in the

  2013 Youth Art Month Celebration

  The YAM booklet and forms have been updated and are ready for you online at http://kaea.com/yam.html

I have tweaked the entry form we need for display so that we can utilize our display space better.  You will need to fill out pages 14 through 16 in the YAM booklet.  The rest is just general information and things you can use for YAM.  

It might take a little while to load on to your computer as it is a large, but helpful document.  

We are again sponsored by "Sargent Art" and they are generously offering a grand prize trip to New York City as well as art supplies to the other place winners.  Remember that you do have to be an active member of KAEA in order participate in the YAM Art Competition.  However, every single art teacher in the state is invited and encouraged to submit ONE piece of student art to represent your school during the YAM celebration.

Other Recognitions The YAM flag awards donated by Molly Hawkins Wholesale will be awarded during the celebration. The Harry Hart Memorial Senior Scholarships will also be awarded during the celebration.

National Education Association Convention YAM Participation We are planning on having a virtual gallery and a display representing KANSAS at the National convention in Fort Worth in March. If you would like to participate, you can send ONE digital photograph of a student's art (include your name, school name, and the student's name and grade) to  Shawny Montgomery at  smontgomery@cheney268.com  by January 30th.

YAM  opportunity through the Council for Art Education

This year the Council for Art Education is encouraging art teachers all across the country to participate in a  national campaign for the first time ever.  With ties to Teas and the NAEA Convention being held in Ft. Worth, we are pursuing country music superstars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.  We are in hopes that they will agree to be our Honorary National Chairpersons and at the very least they will endorse Youth Art Month.
