Aprendiendo del Arte- Learning from Art

To Kansas Art Educators:

I hope you will mark your calendars and join the Kansas State University College of Education Art Education program, the KSU Beach Museum of Art, and the Strecker-Nelson Art Gallery for Aprendiendo del Arte-Learning from Art. The event is February 17th and 18th. Professional Development Hours will be given for attendance at the art making workshops and speaking sessions. The art making workshops are $10 for non-KSU faculty and students just to help cover cost of supplies. Please email Trina Harlow, KSU Art Education Instructor and the event planner for more information! This is going to be an over-the-top amazing, global, artsy event! Take a half day off and come join us....or a whole day off! Or come after work on February 17 for the art making workshop! The workshops will give K-12 art educators, higher Ed educators, and art enthusiasts great insight into colorful, Hispanic, globally inspired art and you'll go home from the workshop with many ideas and finished art works that you make. Everyone who attends will be given a link to great lesson plans, slide shows, and other information. You can also bring high school students with you!

Cilau Valadez, a world renowned Huichol yarn painter and Agustin Cruz Prudencio, a Oaxacan wood carver and painter, both from Mexico, will be joining the COE Art Education program for two days of special events. Also attending is Nancy Walkup, the editor of SchoolArts Magazine and NAEA Elementary Division Director, and the Texas and Louisiana Teacher of the Year.

There will be 2 art making workshops, 3 speaking sessions, and 2 receptions for the general public, including Kansas art educators.

I hope, if at all possible, you will attend these events. I would like to give our guests a warm KANSAS welcome, attended by many area art teachers, and hope you will attend any and all events that you can! There will be many benefits for educators who attend any of these sessions! Please email Trina Harlow at tharlow@ksu.edu, KSU Art Education Instructor, for more information, an event program to be emailed to you, or to reserve your space at the art making workshops. The speaking sessions and receptions do not require reservations.
